TL;DR: We don't store your trading data. Everything stays on your device. We only collect payment information through Stripe. No ads, no tracking, no selling your data.

Journal of Truth ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information when you use our trading journal application.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

We want to be clear about what we DON'T do:

  • No trade data storage: We do not store, access, or transmit your trading data to our servers.
  • No analytics tracking: We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar tracking tools.
  • No cookies: We do not use cookies for tracking purposes.
  • No selling data: We will never sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • No email marketing: We do not collect email addresses for marketing campaigns (unless you explicitly subscribe).

3. Data We DO Collect

3.1 Payment Information (via Stripe)

When you subscribe to our premium service, Stripe (our payment processor) collects:

  • Email address (for receipts and subscription management)
  • Payment method details (credit card information)
  • Billing address

Important: We never see or store your full credit card information. Stripe handles all payment processing securely. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

3.2 Subscription Status (localStorage)

We store your subscription status locally on your device using browser localStorage. This includes:

  • Subscription status (active/inactive)
  • Email address (if provided during checkout)

This data is stored ONLY on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

4. How Your Trading Data is Stored

4.1 Local Storage Only

All your trading data is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage on your device. This includes:

  • Trade entries (pair, entry, exit, P&L)
  • Trade tags (emotions, setup quality, execution)
  • Trade notes and screenshots
  • Custom tags you create

4.2 No Cloud Backup

We do not provide automatic cloud backup or synchronization. Your data exists only on the device where you use the app.

4.3 Data Persistence and Loss

  • Your data persists as long as you don't clear your browser data or uninstall the app.
  • If you clear browser data, your trading history will be permanently deleted.
  • We cannot recover lost data as we do not have access to it.

5. Third-Party Services

5.1 Stripe (Payment Processing)

We use Stripe to process subscription payments. When you subscribe, you are subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy: https://stripe.com/privacy

5.2 OpenAI (Optional AI Mentor Feature)

If you choose to use the AI Mentor feature:

  • You provide your own OpenAI API key (stored locally on your device)
  • When you request AI feedback, your trade data is sent to OpenAI's servers for analysis
  • This is entirely optional and requires your explicit action

5.3 Netlify (Hosting)

Our website is hosted on Netlify. Netlify may collect basic server logs (IP address, browser type, access times) for infrastructure purposes. See Netlify's Privacy Policy.

6. Data Security

  • Client-side only: Since all trading data stays on your device, we cannot be breached or hacked for your trading data.
  • HTTPS: Our website is served over HTTPS to protect data in transit.
  • No passwords: We do not store user accounts or passwords (subscriptions managed through Stripe).

7. Your Privacy Rights

7.1 Access and Control

You have full control over your data:

  • All trading data is stored locally on your device and accessible at any time
  • You can export your data as CSV or JSON from within the app
  • You can delete individual trades or clear all data at any time

7.2 Subscription Management

  • You can cancel your subscription anytime through Stripe's customer portal
  • You can request deletion of your payment information by contacting Stripe

7.3 GDPR Rights (EU Users)

If you are in the European Union, you have the right to:

  • Request access to any personal data we hold (note: we only have subscription status via Stripe)
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data

Our Service is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
